The
Riverside County Department
of Public Health is pleased
to announce the formation of
the Public
Health Preparedness & Response
Competencies Program,
a learning venue designed to
provide tools, knowledge and
practice in the field of public
health emergencies and disaster
response.
The role of public health in the response to disaster
is rapidly emerging, both in terms of operational
and training issues.
Disasters have negative impacts on the community’s
health, and public health employees, healthcare professionals,
first responders and community volunteers must be
well-prepared and trained to assure an effective
and sustained public health response during an emergency
in Riverside County.
The
PHPRCP focuses on providing
training opportunities for public
health employees, healthcare
professionals, first responders
and community volunteers.
The
PHPRCP provides access to the
following:
- Certificate Program to enhance preparedness & knowledge.
- Specialized training opportunities for health
professionals and management.
- Satellite broadcasts.
- In-person trainings and workshops.
- Links to online courses provided by a variety
of external agencies and educational institutions.
- Online registration.

Program Objectives:
The certificate program is designed to prepare public
health workers, first responders, healthcare professionals
and community volunteers for the kinds of work
and roles they will perform in the event of a major
local emergency.
By the completion of your certification level,
you should be able to:
- Develop an understanding of the Standardized
Emergency Management System (SEMS)
- Identify the benefits of ICS and National Incident
Management System (NIMS) applications
- Be acquainted with organization levels of the
National Incident Management System (NIMS)
- Diagram and name the different functions of the
National Incident Management System (NIMS)
- Identify three components of the Incident Command
Structure (ICS)
- Be familiar with the terminology used in ICS
and NIMS
- Understand the role of a disaster service worker
(DSW) in an emergency or disaster
