FIRST RECEIVER AWARENESS/OPERATIONS AND DECONTAMINATION FOR HOSPITALS

Course Description:
HazMat Operations for Healthcare” provides healthcare workers with an improved capability to respond to Haz -Mat events or receive patients in a safe and competent manner, within the typical limited response resources and receiver capabilities at the “Operations” level.

Objectives:
At the end of the HICS Course, the participant will be able to:

Recognize what hazardous materials are; the problems they pose; the risks and outcomes HazMat in healthcare present and recognize a HazMat event through basic clues: warning signs, placards, labels, shipping papers and MSDSs.

Describe basic first receiver actions, citing need for safety, isolating/denying entry, and making required notifications to begin a safe and effective response to a HazMat incident.

Identify the purpose and need to safely initiate command and explain the purpose, need and benefits of scene management.

Identify the need for the appropriate decontamination of initial victims, emergency response personnel and equipment, to avoid additional contamination; and describe proper disposal and documentation procedures during a HazMat response.

Identify the need and method to communicate and coordinate with agencies from all levels of government

Target Audience:
Hospital security, environmental/facilities staff/plant operations, emergency department staff, hospital trainers, hospital-based first responders, BLS/ALS providers or anyone that may respond to a hazardous materials incident.

CEU:
PROVIDER APPROVED BY THE CALIFORNIA BOARD OF REGISTERED NURSING CEP 13623 FOR 16 CONTACT HOURS. THIS COURSE HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR 16 HOURS OF INSTRUCTOR-BASED EMS CONTINUING EDUCATION BY RIVERSIDE COUNTY EMS AGENCY, CA EMS PROVIDER #33-0001.

Course Description:
This eight-hour HICS Course will provide the attendees with a thorough understanding of the Incident Management Team positions and roles and use of the HICS tools, including the Job Action Sheets, the Incident Response and Planning Guides, and forms. We will discuss the role of the hospital in community emergency preparedness and response and collaborative planning and will include a facilitated tabletop exercise and discuss strategies for implementing HICS into your hospital.

Objectives:
At the end of the HICS Course, the participant will be able to:
o Understand the principals of incident action planning
o Utilize the HICS tools in overall planning and response
o Conduct a facilitated, scenario-based exercise
o Outline the historical development of HEICS and HICS

HRSA / HPP Mobile Cache Training

“Mobile Cache Training” will better familiarize healthcare workers with the equipment in the HRSA Mobile Training Cache, the donning/doffing of the Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), and how to properly setup, use and breakdown HRSA Mobile Cache equipment

Objectives:
BY THE END OF THE TRAINING, PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
Correctly state when the HRSA Mobile Cache can be used.
Demonstrate set up, use and break down of the HRSA Mobile Cache.

Target Audience:
Hospital security, environmental/facilities staff/plant operations, emergency department staff, hospital trainers, hospital-based first responders, BLS/ALS providers or anyone that may be used for setup of the HRSA Mobile Cache.
