Riverside County Medical Volunteer Program

The Riverside County Medical Volunteer Program is under development to enhance the County’s emergency medical response efforts. Under the umbrella of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), The Riverside County Medical Volunteer Program will deal with surge capacity in a local disaster, including assisting mass prophylaxis/vaccination clinics or other major public health needs. The unit will partner with the County’s Pharmacy Emergency Response Team (PERT) and other County resources to develop a coordinated response to a disaster.

The program is limiting recruitment to licensed health and medical personnel, including nurses, nurse practitioners, veterinarians, pharmacists, doctors, chiropractors, physician assistants, dentists, and other community resources in the county. This unit is recruiting members for its program by making presentations and/or delivering brochures to its many municipal libraries, Citizen Corps meetings, meetings of professional organizations, mailings, health fairs, and other community gatherings.

Future medical volunteers will be included in exercises planned by the Riverside County Department of Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Branch.

For more information on the medical volunteering please visit the website at http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov/About or contact The Riverside County Medical Volunteer Coordinator, Anthony Shaw, at 951 358-7100 or ashaw@co.riverside.ca.us for further information or assistance.

ALS & BLS Trailer Inventory

The Riverside County Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response (BTPR) Branch has purchased sixteen (16) trailers to serve as Mobile Basic & Advanced Life Support Caches (MALSC). The trailers, known as caches, were designed for use by trained personnel during a disaster, mass casualty incident, or other events that exceed local resources. They contain equipment and medicine to treat at minimum 100 injured or ill people. The trailers will be loaned to different public safety agencies and stored strategically throughout the County; based on large population bases and isolated areas. The Caches can also be utilized as potential resources to surrounding Counties, regions, the State, or for the Federal Government for mutual aide.
